This webinar will discuss the challenges and achievements of public health services in the Latin American and Caribbean Region on contraception, with an emphasis on demand in the context of the Zika epidemic, and the responses of countries and the international community.  An overview of the current contraceptive situation in the Region, the existing gaps and difficulties that the Zika epidemic has shown, and some recommendations will be provided. The experiences of Colombia and the Dominican Republic will be presented in relation to this topic.

  • Dr. Pío Ivan Gómez, Senior Medical Advisor, IPPF / WHR. Colombian expert in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Topic: "The current situation of contraception in the Latin American and Caribbean Region".
  • Dr. Kissayris Martinez Fajardo, Project Coordinator "Ensuring Access to Family Planning in Response to Zika" (SIFPO2-ZIKA), PROFAMILIA Dominican Republic. Topic: "National contraception insurance during the Zika times, government position".
  • Dr. Jonathan Vargas, North Regional Manager, PROFAMILIA Colombia. Topic: "The Colombian health system, barriers to contraception in Zika's time"
