Guide for monitoring Zika virus disease and its complications

This guide is intended to guide the implementation of disease surveillance by Zika virus based on the experience gained in the ongoing epidemic in the Region of the Americas. The document provides general guidance, although not exhaustive, on monitoring activities. Each country shall adapt according to their capacity, epidemiological context and characteristics of its health system. It also includes a brief clinical description of the disease, neurological manifestations and congenital syndrome Zika virus, according to available information, in order to guide the clinical suspicion required for reporting cases. case definitions and methods of detection and laboratory diagnosis are proposed.
